Lyth House Editorial Terms
These Editorial Terms explain how Lyth House provides manuscript assessment, editing, proofreading, publication preparation, Publication Integrity Reviews and related editorial services. They should be read together with the written quotation, project scope and any service-specific agreement issued for a particular project.
1. Scope of editorial work
Every editorial project is governed by a written scope describing the work included, the intended deliverables, the manuscript or files supplied, the agreed timeframe and any exclusions or limitations.
Services may include manuscript assessment, developmental editing, structural editing, copy-editing, proofreading, source and attribution review, metadata preparation, publication preparation and Publication Integrity Review.
Work not expressly included in the agreed scope is not assumed to form part of the service.
2. Author responsibility
The author remains responsible for the manuscript, its claims, opinions, sources, permissions and final approval.
The author must disclose relevant information concerning authorship, artificial-intelligence assistance, previously published material, third-party content, legal concerns, sensitive claims and intended publishing platforms.
The author is responsible for reviewing editorial changes and confirming the final manuscript before publication.
3. Editorial independence
Lyth House aims to improve clarity, structure, consistency and publication readiness without unnecessarily replacing the author’s voice.
Editorial recommendations may identify weaknesses, contradictions, unsupported statements or publication risks. The author may accept or reject recommendations, but unresolved concerns may be recorded in the final editorial or publication report.
4. Sources, quotations and permissions
Authors must identify quotations, references, images, data and other third-party material used in the manuscript.
Unless specifically included in the agreed scope, Lyth House does not independently verify every factual statement, source, quotation, copyright status or permission.
The author remains responsible for obtaining necessary permissions and ensuring lawful use of third-party material.
5. Artificial-intelligence disclosure
The author must disclose material use of generative artificial intelligence in the creation, research, translation, editing or production of the work where that use may affect authorship, rights, accuracy, platform compliance or reader disclosure.
Lyth House may require additional review, revision or disclosure where artificial-intelligence use creates uncertainty concerning originality, attribution, confidentiality, accuracy or platform requirements.
6. Editorial completion and publication approval
Editorial completion does not automatically mean that a publication is approved for release.
A manuscript may be editorially complete while still requiring permissions, formatting, metadata, disclosures, platform compliance, cover preparation, ISBN allocation or other publishing work.
Final publication approval applies only to the specific edition, version, format and publication route identified in the applicable review record.
7. Publication Integrity Review
A Publication Integrity Review is a publication-specific assessment conducted after the relevant editorial and production work has been completed.
The review may consider editorial completion, manuscript version, rights, permissions, disclosures, metadata, format, publication files, accessibility, platform requirements and unresolved risks.
The result may be recorded as:
- Publication review pending
- Approved subject to conditions
- Publication approved
- Certificate issued
- Certificate superseded
- Certificate withdrawn
8. Publication Integrity Certificate
Where the applicable requirements have been met, Lyth House may issue a Publication Integrity Certificate for the identified publication.
The certificate is an internal, publication-specific quality record. It applies only to the title, author, edition, format, files and publication route identified in the certificate.
A certificate may be superseded or withdrawn if the publication is materially altered, if information relied upon during review was incomplete or inaccurate, or if significant concerns arise after issue.
9. No external accreditation claim
Lyth House Publication Integrity Certificates and editorial reports do not constitute PEG accreditation, statutory certification, academic peer review, legal approval, specialist professional approval or endorsement by an external publisher.
Professional membership, training and accreditation are stated separately and accurately. Membership of a professional organisation does not by itself constitute accreditation.
10. No guarantee
Editorial work reduces errors and improves publication quality, but no ethical editor can guarantee that a manuscript will be entirely error-free.
Lyth House does not guarantee publisher acceptance, retailer acceptance, factual infallibility, legal compliance, academic approval, sales, rankings, reviews or commercial success.
11. Platform requirements
Publishing and distribution platforms may change their requirements at any time.
Lyth House may review current platform requirements as part of publication preparation or approval, but the author or publisher remains responsible for complying with the final requirements in force when the publication is submitted or released.
12. Metadata and digital discovery
Publication preparation may include title, subtitle, author information, descriptions, keywords, categories, ISBN details, edition information, social-sharing metadata, structured data, accessibility information and related digital-discovery requirements.
The author must approve the final metadata supplied for publication.
Lyth House does not guarantee search-engine ranking, retailer visibility, audience reach or sales performance.
13. Confidentiality
Lyth House will treat unpublished manuscripts and project information as confidential, subject to legal obligations and any permissions granted by the author.
Authors should not provide highly sensitive personal, legal, medical, financial or confidential third-party information unless it is necessary for the agreed work.
14. Specialist review
Lyth House editorial services do not replace legal, medical, financial, scientific, technical or other specialist professional review.
Where a manuscript contains material requiring specialist expertise, Lyth House may recommend independent review before publication approval.
15. Record validity
Editorial reports, publication records and certificates describe the status of the specified publication at the recorded review date.
Later revisions, new editions, changed files, altered metadata or a different publishing route may require further review.
